We all know how much time it takes to weed spam out of our inboxes, but now it turns out that what was once seen as just an annoying waste of time, in fact has a much bigger impact on the planet!
New research reveals much bigger reasons to shun spam emails according to computer security firm, McAfee. McAfee is out with a new report on the “Carbon Footprint of Spam” that charges the global energy used to transmit, process and filter spam e-mail could power 2.4 million homes! McAfee found eighty percent of that energy actually comes from end-users deleting it and searching for legitimate e-mail.
So what can you do? McAfee’s Dave Marcus says protect your inbox; “If every inbox were protected by a state-of-the-art spam filter, organizations and individuals could reduce today’s spam energy by seventy-five percent per year. That’s the same as taking two-point-three million cars off the road.”
Earth Day is coming up and what better way to observe than fight spam?
