Small Companies, Minority & Women-Owned Firms are Super Bowl Bound

bowlThe Super Bowl is months away, but the competition around the big game has been underway for weeks. Entrepreneurs and small business owners are working to make sure their enterprises are positioned to do business with the National Football League and partner organizations as Super Bowl XLIV kicks off on February 7, 2010.

The biggest show on turf is a great chance for some small firms to locate new customers and get their business name in front of some big decision makers.  The NFL and the Super Bowl Committee both support an “Emerging Business Program” to educate and provide long-term business opportunities for South Florida’s minority and woman-owned small firms.
There is a similar program in every Super Bowl host city that is on the ground and running long before it is established which teams will meet on the gridiron. Super Bowl XLIV has a small business website at http://www.southfloridasuperbowl.com/Emerging_Biz

For more than a decade the program has been building connections between the NFL and small firms in Super Bowl host cities.  The Emerging Business Program holds training sessions and workshops to educate local businesses about the process of pursuing and winning contracts.   The program also awards four scholarships to students who have started or are in the process of starting a business.  While much of the business is centered around the big game, the program strives to develop business relationships that will continue long after the nation’s largest sporting spectacle moves on to another city creating more opportunities for other small firms.
