Canine Military Veterans Need Help as They Return from War Zones

The effort to bring a soldier’s partner and best friend home to the country they served was in the spotlight in Washington as groups want to help canine veterans met with lawmakers. Since 9/11, over 3,600 dogs have served in the military, with close to 2,000 dogs currently serving through various branches of the military.

Some of the 12,000 American troops leaving Afghanistan hope to bring their combat dogs back home.

Organizations like the American Humane Association and Mission K9 Rescue are working to reunite many of these service dogs with their military partners once their service is complete.
